Those who lament a likely Democrat win in Delaware in November don’t understand the ferocity of ordinary citizens’ anger at the way the “political class” has been destroying America.

Rep. Joe Sestak sends five-time Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, above, into retirement with a stunning come-from-behind victory in the the Democratic primary.

After abandoning the party he called home for decades to save his senate seat, Sen. Arlen Specter is now being abandoned by the president who helped woo him into the Democratic Party. President Obama isn’t traveling to Pennsylvania to campaign for him, and his once sizeable lead over Rep. Joe Sestak in the state’s Democratic primary next Tuesday has vanished.

Perhaps the clearest example of veteran lawmakers’ woes is the tough challenge being thrown at Sen. John McCain of Arizona — the GOP’s presidential nominee two years ago.

Mr. Sestak, a two-term congressman and a former admiral running as “the real Democrat,” has steadily closed the gap and last week edged into the lead for the first time.

Sestak says the White House wanted him to drop his Democratic Senate primary challenge to incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter.

“The arrangement I had with Reid [D-Nev.] is that I would have the same seniority as if I had been elected as a Democrat in 1980,” Specter said in an interview with The Hill. “I would be behind [Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick] Leahy [D-Vt.], and when he moved up to chairman of Appropriations, I would move to chairman of Judiciary.”

Expect millions in union support for Specter and billions of taxpayer funds for union payback if he is elected.
