We ARE engaged in a great civil war, a war to determine if our great Republic will survive as a nation of FREE people or become slaves to a debt ridden socialist oligarchy. Will we be a nation of liberty, a nation of equal opportunity, a nation of self-reliance and self responsibility?
Or will we become a nation of dependent parasites living off the fruits of our fellow citizens’ labors by the force of a tyrannical nanny state?
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin is correct and Senator Rand Paul was a hero for fighting this bill.

It will confer upon the executive branch and the military the permanent authority to snatch and grab any person, U.S. citizens included, whom they decree to be a “terrorist” — as defined or not by the executive or the military — and imprison him indefinitely, without formal charge, presentation of evidence or judicial proceeding of any kind. These “detainees” will have neither civilian rights in the civil court system nor — crucially — even the minimal rights to due process and decent treatment conferred upon prisoners of war. (And we are allegedly “at war,” are we not?)
With a history lesson on freedom and liberty Rep. Allen West spoke at a 9/11 memorial. “People attacked America and they attacked the American ideal. They attacked us for our way of life, for our liberty, for our freedom. And that is why they chose to attack places where every day Americans went to work. Because what we must understand is that America is not a geographic location. America is an ideal that exists within the hearts and minds of each and every one of us.”
This is what the radical left has always understood. That for all the facade of one man, one vote– one man with a rock is better than ten thousand votes.
Webster concluded that “the Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government. . . . and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence.”
“Something called liberty was so very important. Our American cause is threatened and once again must be defended.”
This undermining of liberty is part and parcel of the left’s agenda, precisely because their agenda is coercive. Liberty is nothing but an obstacle to the left.
Ron Paul was one of 26 Republicans who joined Democrats in upholding liberty over security. Ben Franklin said “Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security”.
