Labor unions often flood the radio, television and mailboxes with their messages in hopes of swaying public opinion.

Collective bargaining is extortion and the Wisconsin Republicans have taken the first step in freeing the people from the criminal theft by the joint efforts of Democrats and public unions. The bill now goes to the senate where the Democrats who receive the unions bribes have fled the state to obstruct the will of the people.

Funds will be dedicated to paid media, lobbying, work-site leaflets, and a range of other campaign items, including opposition research into groups that unions believe could be funding state efforts to restrict union rights, such as the Koch Brothers, and the Scaife and Walton Foundations. – WSJ

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy discovers that the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters uses non-union labor to protest a Grand Rapids area businessman. What’s worse, the union has even recruited demonstrators who frequent local homeless shelters, including a shelter which gets help from the very same businessman targeted by the union.

The current leadership in Washington should spare workers and small businesses the soaring rhetoric and lofty aspirations concerning job growth and economic development and simply tell us the truth, jobs be damned, the payoffs to union bosses will continue.

An important milestone was reached last year when, for the first time, the majority of union members (51.4 percent) were federal or state government employees. The political power of government workers unions is a major reason why government spending is now out of control.

The Service Employees International Union, which has been one of the leading advocates for the High Road policy, has repeatedly refused to comment on the proposal or its lobbying efforts.
