It’s 2010 and the first-year agenda of a popular and promising young president has gone down in flames. Barack Obama’s two signature initiatives — cap-and-trade and health care reform — lie in ruins.
Desperate to explain away this scandalous state of affairs, liberal apologists haul out the old reliable from the Carter years: “America the Ungovernable.” So declared Newsweek. “Is America Ungovernable?” coyly asked The New Republic. Guess the answer.
Who’s running the Tea Party? As with most questions debated by its activists, there is no consensus. Members of the cross-country network of conservative grassroots groups will say only that they shun formal leadership.
Now, Parker has done her best imitation of lesbian MSNBC-TV commentator Rachel Maddow by writing a column bashing Uganda’s Christian majority for considering passage of a bill to toughen laws against homosexuality. This has been a Maddow cause for months, and Parker is now on the bandwagon.

The flagship project of Americans for Tax Reform is the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written promise by legislators and candidates for office that commits them to oppose any effort to increase income taxes on individuals and businesses. Since ATR first sponsored the Pledge in 1986, hundreds of U.S. Representatives, more than fifty U.S. Senators and every successful Republican Presidential candidate have all signed the Pledge. In the 111th Congress, 172 U.S. Representatives and 34 U.S. Senators have taken the Pledge never to raise income taxes.
Still, we would not have gone so far as to say that global warming was just a hoax. Surely there was some actual science to back it, even if there was a lot less certainty than was claimed.
Now, though, we’re wondering if this was too charitable a view. London’s Sunday Times reports that scientists are “casting doubt” on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s “claim that global temperatures are rising inexorably because of human pollution,” a claim the IPCC describes as “unequivocal”:

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has officially petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider its December 15 endangerment finding that links carbon dioxide emissions with man-made global warming. The regulatory finding is widely seen as an end-run around stalled cap-and-trade legislation in the U.S. Senate.
From what I have learned by spending time with military men and women serving our great nation and by spending time with many more veterans, our military is a well-oiled machine that is fueled by good order, discipline, morale and unit cohesion. Unlike our broken public school system and criminal justice system, our military is not a social experiment. Excellence is still the battle cry of warriors. Thank God.
