Read the true story of the men who sacrificed their lives to keep her flying on the ramparts when author Francis Scott Key was stuck on a British warship watching the intense bombardment  of Fort McHenry. The bombardment continued for 25 hrs with 1,500 bombshells. Waiting in the predawn darkness, Key waited for the sight that would end his anxiety; the joyous sight of the great flag blowing in the breeze. When at last daylight came, the flag was still there! Men had died holding the flag in place. As one fell, another would take his place.
