Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Alvarez and Commissioner Natacha Seijas were ousted in recall votes. Both voted for huge tax hikes that will saddle county taxpayers for years to come. This should serve as a warning shot to union sympathizers that taxpayers have had enough.

Troopers at the Tennessee Capitol had to forcibly carry out the seven protesters who were among a group who stood up during the Senate Commerce Committee hearing Tuesday and began chants about what they called “union busting” by the state Legislature.

If President Obama were serious about preventing violence, he would by now have taken his civility road show to Madison, Wis., where union goons have been sending lawmakers Corleone-esque horse’s heads through the mail, the phone lines and cyberspace.

The pestilential and pernicious effects of unions cannot be ignored, but must be exposed and shouted down as much as the neighborhood molester.

The fact that the liberal teachers’ union organization, which has access to millions of American adolescents, will hope to bolster Democratic voter turnout for the 2012 presidential election by couching their political agenda in a “civics lesson” is, at the very least, unethical, and consistent with the incestuous nature of public sector unions.

It’s government — and public labor unions — that drive costs up and drive quality down.

We can avoid mass teacher layoffs and reward our best performers. But we have to act now.

Yes, we understand that public sector employees got themselves terrific overtime, holiday, pension and health care deals through buying politicians with their votes and campaign money. But now, responsible elected officials in Wisconsin are trying to balance the budget.
