When will Janet Napolitano be held accountable?

She has made clear repeatedly that she believes people with Gadsden flag bumper stickers are a greater threat to domestic tranquility than out-of-the-closet terrorists who receive training and material assistance in foreign terror centers. She has been wrong about this every time, and she will continue to be wrong until Americans actually die.

Attorney General Eric Holder tells Jake Tapper this morning that alleged Times Square bombing screwup Faisal Shahzad was facilitated, financed and working under the direction of the Pakistani Taliban.

While that clears some things up, remember that there is still a middle-aged Tea Party supporter stalking the Nutmeg State, who is angry about the housing crisis and the health care bill, with his U.S. citizenship still in good standing, and probably linking up with our home-grown militias for more one-off attacks.

OK, so I’m the millionth person to make that joke in the last week. But it’s more than a joke because not all the people making those wildly wrong claims about Shahzad’s background and motivation were pundits or minor potentates like New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The “one-off” attack line came from the highest official in the American government charged with preventing attacks exactly like Shahzad’s: Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano.

Napolitano’s rhetorical slip is a little too serious to be palmed off with some linguistic woolgathering.
