New Jersey added 2,600 jobs in October as unemployment fell to 9.2 percent, its lowest level in 16 months, and private-sector employment rose.

EXCERPTS:

The state gained 4,800 private jobs and lost 2,200 government jobs, mainly at the federal level, according to the monthly employment report from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

New Jersey’s jobless rate, which was at 9.4 percent in September, is now below the national rate of 9.6 percent. The state rate is at its lowest rate since May 2009.
