Democrats have ‘targeted’ Republicans for years

Democrat ‘target’ maps and ‘target’ language has been around long before the Palin map.

The Palin campaign map with sites on races has been the target of many leftist outlets including New York Times, MSNBC, HuffPo and many others. but the Democrats actually beat Palin to the punch by years.

Here are examples:

The Democrat Leadership Council has an article in December 2004 by Will Marshal, President of the Progressive Policy Institute which includes the following:

“The heartland strategy begins by choosing likely targets for Democratic gains. Let’s go to the map:” [emphasis added]

“And by targeting these states and contesting them vigorously, Democrats would enhance the prospects of boosting their popular vote and sweeping more Senate and House candidates into office.” [emphasis added]

Leftist Daily Kos ‘targeted’ Rep. Giffords with ‘bulls eye’ in 2008

In a post about ‘bad’ Democrats the Daily Kos used the supposedly violent inciting language over a year before the Palin post that is being blamed on the right.

As early as June 25th, 2008 The Daily Kos used ‘targeted’ and ‘bulls eye’ language directly against Rep. Giffords who appeared in their ‘target’ list in bold along with other blue dog Democrats:

“Who to primary? Well, I’d argue that we can narrow the target list by looking at those Democrats who sold out the Constitution last week. I’ve bolded members of the Blue Dogs for added emphasis.

Not all of these people will get or even deserve primaries, but this vote certainly puts a bulls eye on their district.”

Notice that the KOS claims these ‘targeted’ Democrats ‘sold out the Constitution‘.  It appears that the left is as guilty if not more so and is the more likely source of this demented violence.

And this from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in February of 2009. This was an interactive map which has since been scrubbed from the internet. h/t to VerumSerum

Interactive map from the DCCC's recoveryforamerica.org

This interactive map had a pop up feature which showed you the ‘targeted’ Republican when you clicked on a target:

DCCC Interactive Pop Up Map Targeting Republicans

And they spread it around even using a Facebook page:

And in case that wasn’t enough there was this headline on the DCCC website on Feb. 23, 2009:

DCCC Announces: 12 House Republicans Targeted in Major Grassroots Campaign

So  is this really inciting violence or just standard practice? Loughner is a demented pot smoking leftist who is irrational. For Democrats to try to smear conservatives with this violence is a sign of desperation when their policies and ideology have proved destructive to America and unpopular with the majority of voters.
