A Japanese volcano that recently roared back into life, has erupted with its biggest explosion yet, sending a huge plume of gas and rocks into the sky. The blast also downed trees and broke hundreds of windows some 8 kilometres away. Officials urged over a thousand locals to leave their homes as streams of lava, ash and possible landslides posed a threat. The Shinmoedake volcano erupted last week for the first time in 52 years.
