Cars, Planes to be Banned in Our Green Energy Future

Funny how supporters of the 2009 House bill never told us about what we would have to sacrifice in order to meet such draconian carbon dioxide reductions. Welcome to the energy future of 21st century!

Ever wonder what it would take to cut carbon dioxide emissions 60 percent by the year 2050 to fight the alleged global warming crisis? In Europe, according to a European Union plan announced yesterday, one of the requirements will be banning automobiles from cities.

What happens if you live in a suburb? Drive to the nearest train station, wait for a train, and take a train into the city. What happens if your workplace is not within a close walking distance of the train station? Get used to riding the metro bus system after riding the train. Sounds like fun.

But that’s just one of the restrictions. According to another restriction, most people making long-distance trips will be required to travel by train rather than airplane. Looking forward to your children coming home from college for Thanksgiving? Forget about it, unless they are going to a regional college. Instead of a three-hour flight from California it Illinois, they would have to take a two-day train ride each way. Not going to happen.

Looking forward to that family vacation to see Yellowstone National Park? Forget about that, too, unless you think small children will enjoy four days roundtrip confined on a train.

And yet these restrictions are only the beginning. The automobile and airplane restrictions will be in addition to drastically higher energy prices, which will kill jobs, living standards, and affect every sector of the economy. Also, the EU’s goal of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 60 percent by the year 2050 pales in comparison to legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2009. The U.S. House bill required an 83 percent cut in carbon dioxide emission by the year 2050, rather than the EU’s paltry 60 percent cut, and many alarmists claimed such cuts did not go far enough and they would continue fighting for even more dramatic restrictions.

Funny how supporters of the 2009 House bill never told us about what we would have to sacrifice in order to meet such draconian carbon dioxide reductions. Welcome to the energy future of 21st century!
