Rep. Smith to House Republicans: Defund Obamacare and Planned Parenthood in Next CR

[T]he debt is already over 14 trillion. But by 2021, ten years from now, it will be 25.1 trillion, with a “t.”  That will undue any possibility of economic growth in this country. It will be like a sinkhole.

“(Reps) Steve King (R-Iowa) and Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) recently asked the House leaders not to move another CR that permits the $105.5 billion in automatically appropriated funds for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) spending to go forward.

CNSNews.com asked Smith about the Bachmann-King proposal:  “Will you vote for another CR that permits that 105.5 billion?”

Smith said: “I am arguing that we need to make significant cuts, including the one you just mentioned. But we also need to include the pro-life riders — including de-funding Planned Parenthood — which Planned Parenthood alone has done five-and-a-half million abortions in their own clinics.”

Smith told CNSNews.com that in 2009, “they (Planned Parenthood) did over 332,000 (abortions). That’s a huge loss of children’s lives. They get large amounts — millions of dollars from the federal government.”

Smith is a co-sponsor of the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 614), sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), which was first introduced on Jan. 21, 2009 and re-introduced on January 7, 2011 as H.R.217. The act blocks funding to organizations that perform abortions; it does not reduce the total amount of funds available for family planning.
