Is Obama administration suppressing illegal immigration numbers by not arresting?

Arizona Sheriff Cites Flood of Border Agents Confirming Feds’ No-Apprehension Policy – FOX News

FOX News reports that Arizona Sheriff Larry Dever has received numerous calls and emails from border agents confirming that they have been told not to arrest illegal border crossers but to turn them back south.

“Upper management has advised supervisors to have agents ‘turn back South’ (TBS) the illegal aliens (aka bodies) they detect attempting to unlawfully enter the country … at times you even hear supervisors order the agents over the radio to ‘TBS’ the aliens instead of catching them,” one San Diego border agent wrote in an email to Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever.

Recently DHS secretary Janet Napolitano cited lower arrest numbers as evidence that the  “border is as secure now as it has ever been“.

In early April Sheriff Dever disagreed with Napolitano’s assessment. Dever told CNSNews.com that:

“We do not know who’s crossing that border,” Dever said, adding that “anyone who wants to, can. That’s the message our nation needs to hear — that anyone who wants to (cross the border) can, and is. And our own Department of Homeland Security does not have a clear definition of what securing the border even means.”

Dever said people are “disgusted” and even frightened: “I’ll tell Napolitano, in spite of all of your declarations and efforts to the contrary, things are not safe. No, they are not secure. You can use your numbers to say it’s more secure, but it does not define a sense of safety or well-being. You can say it’s more secure, but it’s more dangerous than ever.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director John Morton told CNSNews.com “The border is as secure as I’ve ever seen it in 20 years in law enforcement.”

Our fearless leader of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, told (lied to) a House committee that the government had “effective control of the great majority” of the both the northern and southern borders even though her departments own data contradicted her testimony.

While we are being assured that all is safe with the border there is growing evidence of more danger than just violent drug cartels. An Iranian book celebrating suicide bombers was found in theArizona Desert indicating that Islamic terrorists are also making their way into the US across the Mexican border. According to one investigation thousands of potential terrorists are making their way across the border.  Our government is also aware that Cuba is being used as a conduit to smuggle Somalis across our southern border. Deroy Murdock at NRO called the border a moving sidewalk for terrorists

The violence continues to escalate on both sides of the border. Deputies have been shot, American citizens murdered, US public lands effectively controlled by the drug cartels, and someone is kidnapped every 35 hours in Phoenix Arizona.

More civilians were killed in the border town of Juarez than in Afghanistan last year. More violence is occurring on our border than happened in the Egyptian riots but the administration is not just silent about it but tries to minimize its significance. Napolitano said it was “inaccurate to state, as too many have, that the border is overrun with violence and out of control.” She added that “This statement, often made only to score political points, is just plain wrong.”

Private citizens have taken to hiding cameras on the border trails into the US showing armed escorts for drug ‘mules’. This shows the lunacy of claiming the border is ’secure’. Smugglers are even using a catapult to launch bales of drugs across the fence to waiting comrades.

All this is possible partly because there is no effective border fence in many places. There has only been 32 miles of double-layer fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border built out of the 700 miles originally mandated by Congress in 2006. The fence has been shown to be effective in areas where it has been completed.

The statements by the Obama administration on border security remind me of the famous Groucho Marx line, “Who ya gonna believe, me or your own lyin’ eyes”.
