Why is it that every Democrat’s answer to too much spending is higher taxes and more spending? Have they been in strategy talks with Obama? “Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton, looking to pressure GOP lawmakers into a deal including tax hikes, said he would not agree to pass a temporary funding measure.” – Business Insider

But Republican House Speaker Kurt Zellers criticized Dayton for “throwing in the towel” on the shutdown.

“This is about shutting down government for a political purpose,” he said in a press conference shortly before midnight.

In May, Dayton vetoed a Republican budget that closed the state’s $5 billion deficit with only spending cuts. Republicans offered about $1 billion in revenue increases late Thursday, but Dayton said they did not go far enough.
