Breitbart Disciple Exposes Red Influence in Congress

April 13, 2012 03:49

Rep. West clearly understands the media war as well and said about the controversy over his comments: “The press wants to write gotcha stories and talk semantics, but just look at the words and actions of the [Congressional] Progressive Caucus. You can call them socialist, Marxist, communist or whatever you want, but the point is, they oppose free markets and individual economic freedom, they want to redistribute wealth, and they want to see the nation fundamentally transformed. Their policies are destructive and I will stand up to them regardless of the critics. Members of this Caucus lavished praise on Fidel Castro following a 2009 visit, just to name one example. The Communist Party USA claims the Progressive Caucus as its ‘ally.’”

Rep. Allen West’s comments about alleged communists in Congress have led to what West calls “A lot of buzz and inaccurate reporting” in the media. Some reporters have nitpicked West on whether he has concrete proof of actual card-carrying members of the Communist Party USA in the Congress.

Politico called him a McCarthyite and actually quoted a spokesman for the Communist Party as saying that West didn’t know what he was talking about.

But the alternative media, led by www.rebelpundit.com, have been covering the story of how the international communist movement, responsible for about one hundred million dead, is very much alive and has collaborators in the U.S. Congress. Rebel Pundit is the work of Jeremy Segal, a disciple of the late Andrew Breitbart who produced the recent video of Rep. Danny K. Davis being honored by the People’s World at the Communist Party U.S.A.’s headquarters in Chicago for a lifetime of “inspiring leadership.”

Davis serves on the Homeland Security Committee where his subcommittee assignments are the Subcommittee on Transportation and the Subcommittee on Oversight. He is also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

When Segal started questioning the congressman outside the party headquarters, CPUSA members and a Davis handler wearing an Obama jacket tried to intervene to protect Davis from further questioning, with one person calling Segal “disgusting.” Segal protested, “Don’t touch me!”

But rather than highlight the case against Davis, who has represented the Chicago-area 7th Congressional District of Illinois since 1996, Chicago Tribune columnist and editorial writer Steve Chapman called West “an embarrassment to the party” for his anti-communist remarks and suggested that he be condemned or expelled from the GOP caucus in the House.

In a brief telephone interview, Chapman, who is labeled a “conservative” by the Townhall website, told AIM that he had never heard of or seen the Davis video, which was originally released through a Breitbart website on March 12. He said he would determine whether it is newsworthy if a link to the video was emailed to him. It has been done.

Although the Davis video got some coverage locally in Chicago, on Fox News and by Investor’s Business Daily (IBD), Segal said he wants to see more media pick up the story, especially because of its national security implications. “This is something that should be front page on the Chicago Tribune,” he said. Instead, however, Tribune columnist Chapman claims no knowledge of the video and bashes West for using inexact language in calling attention to the problem.

“I believe there’s about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party who are members of the Communist Party,” West had said. “It’s called the Congressional Progressive Caucus.” Though serious, he was apparently using the term communist in a loose way, to suggest a far-left or radical “progressive” approach, and also to identify what have traditionally been called “fellow travelers” of the CPUSA.

Indeed, there is abundant evidence of members of Congress cooperating and collaborating with the Communist Party and its front groups, with Davis being only one concrete example. But the major media won’t cover the information because of their apparent fear that such coverage would itself be labeled McCarthyite.

Unafraid of the negative attacks, Segal reports “from the belly of the beast” in Chicago and was inspired by Andrew Breitbart to become a citizen journalist. “I became a disciple of Andrew’s in the media battle we’re in.” His Davis video is the biggest yet and has the potential to highlight communist influence in the Congress as well as the Obama Administration, since Davis and Obama are long-time friends.

West was referring to a 2009 visit to Cuba by Reps. Barbara Lee (D-Cal.), Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) and Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), who met Fidel Castro. Rush said about Raul Castro, “I think that what really surprised me, but also endeared me to him, was his keen sense of humor, his sense of history and his basic human qualities.”

Lee began her career in the California state legislature as a secret member of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, a spin-off from the Communist Party.

To go along with the new Davis material, Segal found old film footage of Obama at an event praising Davis as someone who “shares our values.” His post examines how the careers of Obama and Davis came together in Chicago through such vehicles as the New Party. He said he saw this video as part of Obama’s long-overdue media “vetting” process.

Summarizing the video exchanges, Segal reported, “When questioned about his relationship with the Communist Party, Davis abruptly fled the scene, refusing to answer any further questions…”

The following exchange occurred:

Rep. Davis: “I thought you’re just a citizen? Why are you worried about the Communist Party?”

Segal: “I shouldn’t be worried about the Communist Party?”

Davis: “No.”

The sponsors of the event, which was headlined, “‘Tea party’ Congress can’t stop the fight for equality!” were PeoplesWorld.org, the South Halsted Unemployed Action Center and the Workers Education Society. The telephone contact number is the same as that of the Illinois Communist Party.

People’s World says it has a “special relationship with the Communist Party USA” and publishes its “news and views.” In other words, it is an official outlet for the CPUSA.

After obtaining and posting the footage, Segal says he called the House Homeland Security Committee to inquire about whether they are concerned about a member of the committee having close ties to a political organization that used to be funded by Moscow and controlled by the old Soviet intelligence service the KGB. He tells AIM he has not heard back.

The KGB has been replaced by the Russian FSB, which operates in the U.S. and can count on Moscow-funded Russia Today (RT) television to transmit its propaganda messages.

Taking on the major media, in order to get out alternative news and information, is becoming a full-time job for Segal, who tells AIM that he was motivated after meeting Andrew Breitbart and watching him in action. He decided, “Wow. I can do this,” and launched www.rebelpundit.com shortly after that.

“I don’t have a heart in real estate anymore,” he said, referring to his previous occupation. “I’d rather do this. My heart is in saving the country. If I could just get some way to pay my bills so I can keep going.” He requests contributions, saying, “Your generous contributions are an incredible part of what keeps us on the front lines of this battle and maintaining our site. We sincerely appreciate your continued support in our effort to restore freedom, liberty and truth in the media.”

The first event he covered was an anti-Israel protest, where he questioned the demonstrators about their claims that the Jewish state was waging “genocide” against Arabs. He found they couldn’t explain or define what they were protesting.

He followed that up with a video of an event where people stood up in defiance and said the Pledge of Allegiance at a political forum where it had been prohibited. Segal interviewed the League of Women Voters Forum Moderator who took offense at the spontaneous outpouring of patriotism. “That ended up on Glenn Beck, and Breitbart was putting everything up I sent over there. I kept on going, working for free, still trying to sell real estate, and doing what I can do to help,” he said.

The exchanges at the Davis awards ceremony weren’t Segal’s only exposure to CPUSA members. He previously recorded CPUSA official John Bachtell speaking to members of the Occupy Chicago movement, bringing greetings from the CPUSA.

The video about Davis is big, but Davis’s collaboration with the CPUSA actually goes back many years. The second national conference of the U.S. Peace Council, a CPUSA front, was held in New York City in 1981 and featured Davis, then a Chicago City Council alderman, as a “conference endorser.”

A brochure of the event included Carol Moseley Braun, then an Illinois state representative and later a U.S. senator, as a conference endorser.

The official program of the event featured:

  • Rep. John Conyers (now the second most senior member in the House of Representatives).
  • Then-Georgia state Senator Julian Bond (later president of the Southern Poverty Law Center and chairman of the NAACP).
  • Then-Rep. Gus Savage (Illinois).

Conyers gave welcoming remarks to the U.S. Peace Council founding conference held in Philadelphia in 1979. The U.S. Peace Council’s third national conference was held in Chicago in 1983. Bond participated in this event as well, along with Joseph Lowery, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Information about the U.S. Peace Council’s relationship with the CPUSA and Soviet intelligence was included in two House Select Committee on Intelligence reports—“Soviet Covert Action” (February 1980) and “Soviet Active Measures” (July 1982).

However, Congress no longer seems interested in communist activities on Capitol Hill. The committees or subcommittees dealing with internal security matters were abolished by liberal politicians many years ago.

If the media are not going to tell the truth, the only way to definitely resolve the controversy over the remarks of Rep. West is to restore these panels and examine the evidence. Such a probe is possible, since the Republicans control the House. But is there a political will to mount such an investigation?

Editor’s note: The progressive/socialist is well organized and has been around a long time. Consider:

9/12 – the Manhattan attack that gave us Obama

A diabolical attack occurred in Manhattan on September 12. Not many know of its existence. Even fewer recognize how close it is to destroying America.

“On September 12, 1905, approximately one hundred people met in a loft over Peck’s Restaurant, at 140 Fulton Street in lower Manhattan.  The purpose of the meeting was to strategize the overthrow of the Christian worldview that still pervaded much of American culture and to replace it with the ideas of a then rather unknown writer by the name of Karl Marx.  They called the organization they formed that day the Intercollegiate Socialist Society.” – One Year Book of Christian History by E. Michael and Sharon Rusten

Its been said that the pen is mightier than the sword and this group of ardent socialists have proven that to be true.  This group included politicians, business leaders, educators, lawyers, union labor leaders, publishers and actors. The Intercollegiate Socialist Society became the vehicle which carried the movement to its prominence in all areas of America today.

“The ISS proper was a product of the brain of Upton Sinclair. In December 1904, Sinclair drafted a call for the formation of a group which he called “the Intercollegiate Socialist Society,” which he circulated among leading socialist intellectuals for endorsement. The document was ulmimatedly signed by nine others in addition to Sinclair, including Leonard Abbott, Clarence Darrow, Jack London, Graham Phelps Stokes, and William English Walling, among others. This call was published in various socialist publications in the spring of 1905 and a topic of discussion throughout that summer.

[fn. Max Horn, The Intercollegiate Socialist Society, 1905-1921, pp. 5-6.]” – Marxist history.org

Among the influential members of this attack on the hearts and minds of America were  W.E.B. Dubois, who would become an official of the NAACP and later a Communist Party member, and Victor L. Berger of Wisconsin, who became the first Socialist elected to Congress, Walter Lippmann, later author and director of the Council on Foreign Relations,  Walter Reuther, the future president of the United Auto Workers, and Eugene Debs, five-time Socialist candidate for president.

“The society grew.  The first annual convention was held in 1910, and by 1917 they were active on sixty-one campuses and a dozen graduate schools.

_

In 1921 the Intercollegiate Socialist Society took its next organizational step, changing its name to the League for Industrial Democracy.  Its purpose was “education for a new social order based on production for use and not for profit.”  Norman Thomas, another perennial Socialist candidate for president, was the leader behind the scenes.  The renamed organization’s first president was Robert Lovett, editor of the New Republic, and the field secretary was Paul Blanshard, who later became an author.”

The college chapters of the Intercollegiate Socialist Society now became the Student League for Industrial Democracy.  As members graduated from college, some entered the pulpit, others the classroom; some wrote textbooks while others entered the labor movement and both political parties.  When the New Deal began in 1933, they were prepared.  At the time the league had only 5,652 members, but they were in positions of leadership everywhere.

By 1941 John Dewey, the founder of progressive education and the league vice president in the 1930s, was its honorary president, and Reinhold Niebuhr, the theologian, its treasurer.  Dewey had already organized the Progressive Education Association and the American Association of University Professors.” – One Year Book of Christian History

John Dewey is a great example of how this meeting in 1905 progressed to be so influential.

According to Discover the Networks (which you should read in its entirety):

“The NEA was founded in 1850 as the National Teachers Association, and adopted its present name in 1857. Promoting government-owned public schools and “modern” pedagogical ideas, this union permitted no private school teachers to join its ranks. These government-owned-and-run schools were modeled on statist European education in Prussia, and attracted socialist activist teachers who saw public school students as perfect subjects for re-engineering society. That remolding began with the anti-Catholic objectives of Horace Mann (1796-1859) and expanded to the anti-religious humanism of John Dewey (1859-1952).”

A big part of the agenda of the NEA is to remove Christianity from the schools and from the students themselves as the Chronology of the NEA points out:

‘Their goals and tactics haven’t changed. Take religion. Back in 1933, John Dewey co-authored the first Humanist Manifesto which called for a new world religion: “…a synthesizing and dynamic force for today must be shaped for the needs of this age. To establish such a religion is a major necessity of the present.”

They have come a long way. Today, Christianity is banned from our government schools. Instead, students are immersed in the new global spirituality — a contemporary, idealistic blend of all religions — through classroom myths, rituals, symbols and multicultural experiences. This new spiritual synthesis has been adapted to fit the amoral, religious standards outlined by UNESCO’s Declaration on the role of religion in a culture of peace and Declaration of Principles on Tolerance.’

A telling example of how far they had come by 1944 is this quote from Norman Mattoon Thomas 1944 Socialist Party Presidential candidate:

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. I need no longer run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.” — Norman Mattoon Thomas (1944 Socialist Party Presidential candidate).

Former communist David Horowitz explains how history of the takeover of the Democrat Party by socialist/Marxists in a speech you can watch here:

History of the takeover of the Democrat Party by socialist/Marxists

As a result of Intercollegiate Socialist Society efforts and those of subsequent spin off groups a majority of Democrats and liberals now say they have a positive view of socialism according to a recent Gallup poll. That socialist majority of the left is about 36% of the US.

Just compare this list of actions from the Communist Manifesto to where America is today;

“1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralisation of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, &c, &c.”

See anything familiar? A specter is haunting America – the specter of socialism.

Walter Williams put it well: “I believe most Americans find the ideals and principles of socialism, communism and progressivism repugnant, but by our sanctioning greater government centralization and its control over our lives, we become their dupes or, as Lenin said, “useful idiots.”” – Walter Williams.

Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D MI), chair of the powerful House Judiciary Committee has been caught on tape, meeting with members of the U.S.’s largest marxist organization Democratic Socialists of America. Barbara Lee is a pro-socialist Democratic member of Congress. A group of left wing radicals assembled at a conference in Washington, D.C. under the banner of the Campaign for America’s Future. This group was a Who’s, Who’s of the progressive/ socialist movement in America.

American unions have a history of association with socialism. Andy Stern former head of SEIU and most frequent visitor to the Obama White House wants to ’share wealth’ and uses the communist slogan ‘workers of the world unite‘. Stern also worked for AFL-CIO which became a progressive/ socialist organization when John Sweeney, a member of Democratic Socialists of America, took over.

And who could forget the self avowed communist who was Obama’s ‘Green Jobs Czar’ and on the White House staff Van Jones. When Jones’ communist background came to light he was moved over to the progressive/ socialist think tank Center for American Progress which is headed by Obama’s confidant and former advisor John Podesta.

Then there is Obama ‘Diversity Czar’ appointee at the FCC Mark Lloyd. Lloyd was caught on video praising the Chavez takeover of Venezuela. That video has been scrubbed from the internet but a Washington Times article notes that Lloyd praised socialist dictator Hugo Chavez’s rise to power in Venezuela as “an incredible revolution.”

And don’t forget the Mao Tse Tung Christmas ornament hanging on the White House Christmas tree. Or Anita Dunn, when she was the White House Communications Director,  saying Mao Tse Tung was one of the two people she turns to most. Meanwhile the White House collaborates with socialist union boss every day.

From our previous editorial More people are realizing Obama IS a socialist:

Accuracy in Media was one of the earliest to recognize and expose the socialist/Marxist early connections of Obama with posts like Conservatives Behind the Curve on ObamaThe Marxist Roots of Obama’s Rage, Part One , The Marxist Roots of Obama’s Rage, Part Two , and Exposing Un-American Activities.

A Townhall.com article by Terry Jeffrey the Editor-in-chief of CNSNews.com cries ‘Hannity’s Right: Obama Is a Socialist‘. Mr. Jeffrey points out that Hannity has been claiming that Obama is a socialist for some time.:

Obama, for example, practiced socialism with General Motors.

Last year, he directed the government to take 60 percent ownership of GM. Congress had not enacted legislation authorizing him to do this. He simply took money out of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, which had been appropriated to buy assets from financial institutions (not manufacturers), and bought the federal government an auto company.

Obama’s greatest socialist act so far, however, is the national health care system he signed into law last month.

Recent books expose like Stanley Kurtz Radical-in-Chief research the socialist past of Obam. Another book, Dupes by Paul Kengor, makes use of Obama’s communist mentor, Communist Party USA member Frank Marshall Davis which was first exposed by New Zeal blogger Trevor Loudon.

Even the mainstream Forbes ran an article proclaiming Obama as a Fabian Socialist as early as the day before the 2008 election. Considering what has happened in the two years since this was written it is amazingly prophetic:

Fabians believed in gradual nationalization of the economy through manipulation of the democratic process. Breaking away from the violent revolutionary socialists of their day, they thought that the only real way to effect “fundamental change” and “social justice” was through a mass movement of the working classes presided over by intellectual and cultural elites. Before TV it was stage plays, written by George Bernard Shaw and thousands of inferior “realist” playwrights dedicated to social change.

That’s the Fabian MO, relentless cultural and journalistic attacks on everything that is, and then a hard pitch for the hope of what might be.

That’s Obama’s world.

He’s telling the truth when he says that he doesn’t agree with Bill Ayers’ violent bombing tactics, but it’s a tactical disagreement. Why use dynamite when mass media and community organizing work so much better?

So here is the playbook: The left will identify, freeze, personalize and polarize an industry, probably health care. It will attempt to nationalize one-fifth of the U.S. economy through legislative action. They will focus, as Lenin did, on the “commanding heights” of the economy, not the little guy.

It may not be health care first; it might be energy, though I suspect that energy will be nationalized much more gradually. The offshore drilling ban that was allowed to lapse legislatively will be reinstated through executive means. It may be an executive order, but might just as well be a permit reviewing system that theoretically allows drilling but with endless levels of objection and appeal from anti-growth groups. Wind and solar, on the other hand, will have no permitting problems at all, and a heavy taxpayer subsidy at their backs.

They’ve come a long way baby, and Barack Hussein Obama is the result.
