The Tea Party phenomenon has captured America’s attention, not only for its muscle at the ballot box, but for its make-up, consisting primarily of people who have never before been involved in politics or public policy.

The ruling is significant not just because it reached the right result, but because it quite rightly rejects what has become the “reform” movement’s primary argument in support of disclosure in ballot-issue campaigns: the so-called “informational interest.”

Don’t believe them for a second. These hikes include reducing the child tax credit, re-imposing the marriage penalty, raising taxes on small businesses (the American jobs engine), raising dividend taxes (draining seniors’ incomes), raising capital gains taxes (diverting money from job-creating investments) and raising some personal tax rates.

Let’s be clear, now we must all get to work. The new Congress has a choice: answer the call of renewal or betray the hopes of the American people. It is time for conservatives to be conservative, and not backslide.

These reforms would democratize the process for selecting committee and subcommittee chairmen and for assigning Members to committees, jettisoning the current process, in which party leaders reign supreme, in favor of a more broadly based process that allows rank-and-file Members to play a meaningful role in these important decisions.
