There are no constitutional problems with the Defense of Marriage Act. The act falls well within the constitutional authority of Congress. Barring a judicial activist court’s distorting the law, we fully expect all challenges to its constitutionality to fail, as they have in the past.

It’s worth noting that Florida’s constitution prohibits recognition of same-sex marriage, the exact view Mr. Buell supports. In essence, he is now being accused of hate speech for expressing a view enshrined in the state constitution.

“Values voters” have not lost their edge or enthusiasm. They have a vision for a virtuous, just, and moral America, they are willing to fight for it, and unlike many of their ideological counterparts, they don’t stay home on election day.
