Long before he was elected president, years before he was elected governor of the all but officially bankrupt state of California, Ronald Reagan spoke out against big government.

Just in time for the dog and pony bipartisan reform national health care summit show debut, Fox News discovered a nearly 50 year recording of then actor Ronald Reagan warning of the dangers of socialized medicine.

“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project,” he said in the recording. But he said most people in America oppose “socialized medicine” when given the choice.

“From here, it’s a short step to all the rest of socialism,” Reagan said.

His closing advice to halt the creeping spread of socialism was as relevant then as it is today–speak up! Contact your elected representative and just say no.

He was a prophet before, during and after his time.
