Trumka who has a violent history in union leadership, has pledged to spend more than the $44 million that they did in 2006 helping Democrats. The union which used to be anti communist under Lane Kirkland has turned radically left and eliminated the rule that kept communists out of its leadership.

Sweeney, a member of Democratic Socialists of America, was instrumental in remaking labor into a progressive movement led by people such as the following:
- Linda Chavez-Thompson was Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO from 1995 to 2007. She is also Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, which controls the Democratic Party.
- Steve Rosenthal worked in the Clinton administration and, in 1995, became AFL-CIO’s Political Director. On August 8, 2003, Rosenthal and feminist activist Ellen Malcolm founded America Coming Together (ACT). ACT was the most powerful of the organizations forming the core of George Soros’ Shadow Party.
- Former New Leftist Andrew Stern worked for AFL-CIO since 1973 before leading the SEIU out of the AFL-CIO to become its president.
- Bill Fletcher Jr., former Education Director for the AFL-CIO and assistant to President Sweeney, is also a leftwing activist. He is the founder of the Black Radical Congress and author of Solidarity Divided.
- Richard Trumka, former Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, became the President of the federation in 2009. That same year, President Obama named Trumka to his Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
The socialist roots of unions are well documented. Even today unions like the NEA (the teachers union) are pushing leftist radicalism in our schools and legislatures. The NEA spent an estimated $569 million on local, state and national political campaigns during the 2007-2008 election cycle, according to the National Institute on Money in State Politics. This political campaign funding is why Harvard University education scholar Paul Peterson declares that the NEA is “in a position to tell state legislatures what to do.” The NEA also pushes the Alinsky radicals guide to revolution on its website.
Trumka is also pushing a global ‘Robin Hood Tax’ in conjunction with European socialists.
Unions are estimated to have spent over $400 million to help Obama get elected and he has paid them back in spades. Recent paybacks to unions by Obama include overturning a 76 year old rule to make it easier to unionize airlines and more importantly a new executive order requiring all government contracts be to union companies. Both of these union payoffs were done without needing or even asking for congressional approval.
Obama has promised the AFL-CIO that he would “keep on fighting to pass the Employee Free Choice Act”. The “Employee Free Choice Act”—better known as the Card Check bill—is a proposed law that would greatly advantage unions in organizing new workers. It takes away the secret ballot and would allow unions to intimidate workers into voting to be unionized.
More recently Obama and the Democrats pushed through a $30 billion ‘jobs’ bill which amounted to a union bailout of cities and states that had been unable to negotiate cuts to union benefits and salaries.
Now Obama is calling for a $50+ billion ‘second stimulus’ which would be limited to union jobs. Union salaries are subject to dues which are collected by the union thugs like Trumka and recycled as campaign contributions to Democrats. The top recipients of campaign contributions are of course all Democrats who continue to vote tax dollars to support more union salaries which help elect more Democrats.
