Reagan often noted that Karl Marx, in his “Communist Manifesto” (1848), demanded a permanent “heavy progressive or graduated income tax.” Indeed, it’s point 2 in Marx’s 10-point program, second only to his call for “abolition of property.”

In his first five years in office, FDR spent more than the previous 31 presidents combined; in eight years as president, Obama will have doubled the national debt accumulated by all 43 of his predecessors (unless, of course, Uncle Sam’s farcical finances blow up before then).

Walter E. Williams compares Obama’s economic policies to those of FDR and destroys the myth surrounding the government intervention in the Great Depression. Obama is repeating the same failed policies of more debt, more spending and more intervention. The results are and will continue to be the same – abject failure.

If you want redistribution, you’d better first produce growth. Which the Obama Democrats’ policies have failed to do. Obama (and most academic historians) have learned the wrong lessons from FDR. – NRO

If Obama had spent less time seeking out Marxist professors in college he might have learned some basic economics.

For Barack Obama, the “change you can believe in” entails the transformation of the United States from an opportunity society based on merit and markets to a social democracy that focuses on redistribution and political dominance of civil society. Compromise was anathema to Wilson and is repulsive to Obama when it comes to programs dear to the heart of each:
